igus gives HudRail a helping hand in its Railway Challenge

A team of undergraduate mechanical and electrical engineers from the University of Huddersfield competed in the Institution of Mechanical Engineers' Railway Challenge, at the Stapleford Miniature Railway, near Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.

Tyre manufacturer installs Micro-Epsilon
online measurement systems and sees
significant improvements in process capability

Precision sensor manufacturer Micro-Epsilon has launched a new high speed confocal sensor controller equipped with an integrated super bright LED light source, making it suitable for high speed (up to 70kHz) distance and thickness measurement applications, including high speed surface scanning and topography. The new confocalDT 2471 confocal chromatic controllers are designed for high speed distance and thickness measurements of mirrored, transparent, shiny and diffuse surfaces. The controllers are compatible with all Micro-Epsilon confocal IFS series sensors.

Retrofit your way to Industry 4.0

Here Jonathan Wilkins, marketing director of obsolete components supplier EU Automation discusses issues to consider when retrofitting in your migration to Industry 4.0.

There are lots of nonsensical phrases in the English language, one of the most common being 'you can't have your cake and eat it too'. Put simply, this phrase means that you can't have it both ways. TE Connectivity presented Smart I/O module at SPS IPC Drives

TE Connectivity (TE), a world leader in connectivity and sensors, presented new products for Internet of Things (IoT) and Industry 4.0 applications at SPS IPC Drives 2016.. These included TE's new IoT OmniGate I/O module, which can be used to set up a communication path from the machine to the cloud without impairing the performance of the control network. Information from sensors and actuators can thus be captured, filtered, prepared and then transferred to IT systems.

Oxy-fuel safety: It's every-ones responsibility
