PDR Rework releases Intelligent One-Touch Automated
Thermal Process Control Software at IPC APEX EXPO 2017

PDR Americas, a leader in IR rework, test and inspection, offer a new rework control package that reduces setup and changeover times effectively to zero and makes precision rework as simple as pushing a button. The ThermoActive+ Software was demonstrated in at the 2017 IPC APEX EXPO, at the San Diego Convention Center in Calif.

The ThermoActive+ Software suite features 'one-touch' automatic process functionality, press and go features, PSI advanced process setup guidance, automatic reports, automatic heating/cooling/vacuum controls, and more. Additional features include automatic thermal control and automatic real-time adjustment of settings to switch from small to large applications.

In addition to simplifying rework batch runs, this approach also means that changeovers can be handled automatically without the need to change tools or run the system through a teaching mode for new setups, both of which require the skills of trained personnel. Additionally, different board types are handled automatically, as the software recognizes the different heating rates of larger or smaller masses and adjusts accordingly

A key benefit of the latest ThermoActive+ Software release is its ability to provide accurate real-time feedback of board and device temperatures from the rework station. These modes allow the process to run fully automatically without the aid of a skilled technician and provide for true in-process control over the rework process.

The  software is  designed  to be  as easy-to-use  as possible  and  is rooted  in the company's  philosophy  of  providing  inline  process  quality  for  the  offline  rework process.  It allows BGAs  and other complex  devices  to be removed  and reworked with the user-simplicity  associated  with  hand  tools,  but  the  process  control  and capability of high-end, fully capable rework stations.

The ThermoActive+ Software package is designed for use with PDR's next-generation rework systems that include tool and nozzle free, gas-free systems based on the company's patented focused IR technology. In essence, the software controls the process while the rework platform provides efficient lower and upper side heating plus the vital temperature feedback data.

PDR Rework Systems remains at the forefront of rework technology by providing air nozzle free systems with advanced in-process control features and visible light that takes the guesswork out of rework.

New IPC 7711/7721 Rev. "C" The Rework
and Repair of Electronic Assemblies - Focused IR

PDR Americas offer the new IPC 7711/7721 Rev. C standard - The Rework and Repair of Electronic Assemblies - now includes focused infrared technology as a method for the removal and replacement of components. PDR offers the only systems on the market that have this technology.

Focused IR Rework Technology - Visible IR Rework is now part of Rev. C of IPC 7711/7721 for managers and technicians responsible for the successful rework and repair of electronic assemblies. Focused IR technology is identified as generating visible heat energy that is controlled by the use of an iris mechanism, direct in-process IC thermal control, and does not require air nozzles, i.e. laminar air flow. The technology is well-suited for high-mix applications, applications requiring advanced thermal control precision, and applications requiring the direct in-process control of the IC when undergoing temperature gradients.

PDR Rework Systems announces thirty
years since the first pioneering IR rework system

PDR Americas, announce the 30-year anniversary of the development of the first pioneering IR system. 30 years and 4500 installed IR Rework Systems later, PDR has grown to offer a world-class global sales and support network through its alliance partners.

PDR was formed in 1985 by Philip Gibbs, David Lowrie and Roger Gibbs and the first pioneering IR system was launched in 1987. 30 years later, PDR is still at the forefront of SMD rework technology. The company attributes its success to its ongoing focus on providing the industry with operator friendly rework systems that are both simple to use and maintain. Simply building a rework system that offers unique advantages to the industry is not enough. Equally important is PDR's 'core value' commitment to 'long-term customer satisfaction.'

At the operator level, PDR IR rework systems provide the operator with a visible means to determine where heat is being applied (focused IR) and to easily observe solder reflow. This precision targeting of visible focused IR eliminates the guesswork out of not only day-to-day rework tasks, but greatly accelerates profile development process as well.

Since 1985, PDR customers have voted with their pocketbooks for a system that is air nozzle free, capable of true in-process control, and that produces high-yield repeatable results…no matter the complexity of the application at hand. As PDR celebrates its 30
th anniversary and remarkable deployment of 4500+ systems now commissioned, the company remains the industry technology leader through its conscientious commitment to simplifying the rework process.

PDR Rework Systems provides air nozzle free systems with advanced in-process control features and visible light that takes the guesswork out of rework.
