Jungheinrich unveils revolutionary
'two shifts, one charge' Kombi Stacker

Jungheinrich offer a totally new narrow-aisle Kombi Stacker - the EKX 514-516 electric order picker and trilateral forklift. With a payload capacity of 1.6 Tonnes and a lift height of 18 metres, the new model offers maximum versatility for order picking and stacking operations.

Just one battery charge for two shifts
The truck is equipped with state-of-the-art control technology, completely new motor technology and an efficient energy management system. Its intelligent design makes use of high-strength steels, resulting in a weight reduction of 150 kilograms. "This means we can guarantee the efficient and economical operation of the stacker over two shifts with a single battery charge," says Steve Richmond, Director of Jungheinrich's Systems & Projects Division.

The new Kombi Stacker eliminates the need for extra batteries on a two-shift operation and cuts down on requirements for charging stations and extra manpower. Richmond continues: "This is no idle promise. If a battery fails to hold a charge for two full shifts, Jungheinrich will replace it free of charge."

Motor efficiency: 93 per cent of energy converted into output
Completely new motor technology developed by Jungheinrich is at the heart of the EKX 514-516. For the first time the high performance and energy efficiency of a synchronous motor has been combined with the low maintenance and cost advantages of a three-phase AC motor.

The new motor technology converts around 93 per cent of the energy consumed into actual output, cutting energy losses by half. "This means that energy consumption has been reduced by a further 15 per cent compared to the previous model," says Richmond. "And this, despite the truck's much higher performance," he adds.

Vibration damping reaches new heights
For the first time Jungheinrich is also equipping this series with a patented vibration damping system. The optional Floor Pro module reduces lateral vibration of the mast and driver's cab caused by uneven floors. "This system enables the user to travel more smoothly and up to 30 per cent faster on substandard surfaces," says Richmond. "Narrow-aisle trucks can now work safely and efficiently on floors that were originally designed solely for reach trucks - even at lift heights of 10 metres".

The new EKX 514-516 is fitted with a number of different modules for process integration, including RFID technology, height and distance measurement and the Jungheinrich Logistics Interface. Throughput can be enhanced by up to 25 per cent using the optional Jungheinrich warehouse navigation system with semi-automatic target approach.

Richmond concludes: "By combining intelligent assistance systems with high-performance synchronous motors, Jungheinrich has made a giant leap in optimising energy efficiency - putting us in great shape to meet the future challenges of Intralogistics."

Jungheinrich's new Kombi Stacker EKX 514-516 was unveiled at the LogiMAT 2016 exhibition, in March, in Stuttgart .

Jungheinrich are offering opportunities for 17 new apprentices
Jungheinrich UK has embarked on its largest single recruitment initiative for young apprentices with the creation of 17 positions in the company's Customer Service organisation.

Steve Shakespeare, Jungheinrich's Director of Customer Service says: "Similar to many UK industrial sectors, Intralogistics is suffering from a major shortage of talent. As one of the industry's leading companies, we recognise the important role that we play in attracting and developing new talent, and so we have launched our largest apprenticeship recruitment initiative yet with 17 new positions."

Illustrating the success of Jungheinrich UK's apprenticeship programme, Gavin Hersom, one of the company's young engineering apprentices, recently won the Fork Lift Truck Association's Apprentice of the Year Award 2016 at a prestigious Awards event held at the International Centre in Shropshire on 27th February.

"We are committed to helping young individuals embark on a rich and rewarding career in Intralogistics, whether that is through our Engineering Apprenticeship Programme or through our unique Sales Academy Scheme," says Shakespeare. "Having been an apprentice myself, I am well aware of the opportunities that can arise for young people with the right attitude and drive."

He continues: "Jungheinrich UK is focused on developing talent for the future and we will be demonstrating this at IMHX 2016. We aim to show potential apprentices, not only the available programmes within our business, but also, the valuable opportunities that exist for individuals going forward. We will have on-hand a number of our team members who have developed beyond their original remit and who continue to progress through our business.

"At IMHX we hope to engage with prospective employees, and their families, so that we can demonstrate our passion and commitment to helping them develop an exciting and rewarding career in Intralogistics," concludes Shakespeare.
