Cogiscan's new Co-NECT Production
Software wins a 2017 NPI Award at APEX

Cogiscan Inc., the leading Track, Trace and Control (TTC) solutions provider for the electronics manufacturing industry, announces that it has been awarded a 2017 NPI Award in the category of Software - Production for its new Co-NECT Production Software. The award was presented to the company during a Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017 ceremony that took place at the San Diego Convention Center during the IPC APEX EXPO. This marks the company's fifth consecutive NPI Award.

Cogiscan's Co-NECT is a unique, standalone and neutral connectivity solution that addresses the greatest challenge in the industry at this point: Connectivity between different machines, software and enterprise systems. This technology enables Industry 4.0 for electronics assembly. Co-NECT supports all existing and future industry standards such as SECS/GEM, CAMX, ZVEI, JSON, as well as proprietary interfaces from leading MES and machines vendors.

The Cogiscan connectivity layer, Co-NECT, enables data exchange in real-time in very large manufacturing sites with hundreds of machines. The architecture and supporting infrastructure is optimized to ensure that there are no delays or any lag in response time, regardless of how many lines / machines / workstations are connected.

Co-NECT is built upon the standard Cogiscan TTC platform that has been around for more than 15 years. It adapts to every customers' environment, regardless of the mix of machines and software solutions already in place. The use of a third-party connectivity middleware means that each customer can keep their options open for the future instead of limiting themselves to a single vendor solution.

Premiering in 2008, the NPI Awards program is an annual celebration of product excellence in electronics surface mount assembly. Premier products based on the finest examples of creative advancement in technology are chosen by a distinguished panel of industry experts.

Universal Instruments and Cogiscan join forces
to provide  Factory-Wide Traceability & Connectivity

Cogiscan Inc., have been chosen by Universal Instruments to support traceability and connectivity requirements for one of its major customers. Universal was recently selected by a leading EMS provider to source and supply complete production lines for a new facility. The customer requirement included Universal's core product offerings for automated pick-and-place in SMT and automated through-hole insertion, as part of a comprehensive factory-wide solution.

The EMS provider needed a complete traceability solution to cover every single operation on each line in order to meet the needs of their OEM customers. Universal thoroughly evaluated multiple vendors to support these traceability requirements, and chose to collaborate with Cogiscan. Track, Trace and Control is what Cogiscan is known for, and that is exactly what Universal needed in order to put together a true connected factory solution. "It's truly an honor that Universal Instruments chose to collaborate with Cogiscan. The team at Universal evaluated potential partners based on a deep understanding of their customer's objectives and requirements.  The net result is a completely connected factory that will provide their customer with a significant competitive edge for years to come." stated Mitch DeCaire, Cogiscan Channel Account Manager.

Universal also served as a complete systems integrator for the entire project, including the selection and delivery of best-fit equipment for all operations throughout each line, such as screen printers, automated inspection and reflow. Cogiscan was a perfect fit, with the biggest interface library on the market, enabling them to connect to each different type of machine.

"We selected Cogiscan because the company is a focused Track, Trace and Control solutions provider, offering connectivity, data collection, and a modular suite of TTC application modules.  We also found Cogiscan to be extremely responsive and willing to collaborate with us." commented Universal Instruments Vice President of Customer Operations, Brad Bennett.  Cogiscan does not compete or overlap with any of Universal's software, but rather complements its software products, enabling Universal to offer a complete TTC solution that connects to all of the different equipment on each line.

This successful collaboration between Universal Instruments and Cogiscan has led to other joint ventures, including machine and software connectivity projects. Through a fully connected and intelligent manufacturing environment, Universal's customers will be able to implement Industry 4.0 initiatives to improve productivity, quality and visibility on the shop floor.
